5 Ideas on How to Use Retired Items

"HELP! I have so many items that are retiring. What can I do with these?"

Does that sound familiar to you? The good news is that unlike some companies, Origami Owl® retired items never lose their value. Just because they are retiring, doesn't mean you can no longer use these products nor should you have to take a loss on these items.

Here are five ways that you can still make use of retired products:

1. Cash and Carry - At an event or an in-home Jewelry Bar® these items can still be sold in person at full value. People love retired items! They become a collectors item, and a rare find for some. If you are presenting them as part of your make and take option for a Jewelry Bar, you will want to still provide the Hostess with credit for these items. How can you do that exactly? The same way you would for any party in which you offer the option to take home their product that night. You would need to order current product of equal value for your self for inventory through her party. This still provides your Hostess with credit for the items purchased by her guests.

2. Downline Gifts/Incentives - Do you have personally sponsored designers? Use these items as gifts, prizes, etc. for your team. Some of these items may have meaning to your team or a current promotion they may have achieved within the company. Perhaps your team name is the "Sparkling Stars" and as a prize for a contest within your own team one month you give away a locket from the current collection with a retired Star Charm for your team member. Be creative and find fun ways to pass on items that perhaps newer designers never had the chance to add to their personal collection before they joined. They can keep it for themselves, or do with it any of the options I've provided here as well. One of my personal favorites for my Designer's Achievements is the "You Rock" charm from the 2014 Valentine's Collection.

3. Jewelry Bar® Games - If you play games at your Jewelry Bar®, retired items make a great prize, especially retired charms! Charms are an affordable give-away at Jewelry Bars®. Keep a little "Goodie Jar" of special charms from past collections and allow the winners to pick from one of these fabulous charm options.

4. Booking Incentives - Now this is an absolute favorite of mine: the Chain & Dangle Incentive! Choose any 3 of your dangles and one chain for this incentive (here is where you can use some of those retired dangles and chains!). Place all three dangles on the chain and let your Hostess know she get's to wear it for the evening, and possibly keep the chain at the end of her party! All she has to do, is work with you to secure 3 bookings from her own. Each person who books a party will get to pick a dangle from her chain as a gift from you for booking. You can place the dangle in a little gift box with their name on it, and let them know they will receive it the night of their own party. If all 3 dangles have been picked/3 parties booked, then the chain becomes your Hostesses to keep!

5. Raffle/Donations/Fundraisers - Have you ever been asked to donate either a gift certificate or product for a fundraiser or event before? Well, here is another great chance to mix in some current and past product together. Origami Owl® encourages their designers to be a Force for Good and give back to your community! In the past I have used a mixture of current and retired product as a donation to a fundraiser event. It can make your donation item all that more special as something customers cannot purchase at that present time. Not to mention, you will feel great doing it!

So, as you can see there are many options as to how to still incorporate retired product into your business as an Origami Owl® Designer. If you join right before an updated kit comes out, or just carry a lot of inventory that perhaps contains some of the Bye Bye Birdie items, don't let it get you down! Try some of these strategies as ways to keep your business thriving. Retired items that you have can and should be used in your current business! Don't leave them on the shelf collecting dust.
